🐟 Little Fish, Big Fish — free eat-and-grow fish game

The "be a small fish, become a big fish" formula was crystallized in the early 2000s web era by Fishy! (XGen Studios, 2001), one of the definitive Flash games, and got its polished commercial form in Feeding Frenzy (Sprout Games, 2004), an Xbox Live Arcade launch staple. The rule set is one of gaming's most elegant: one mechanic — eat what's smaller, flee what's bigger — produces constant risk-reward math, because the thing that can kill you is also standing between you and lunch.

When Flash died in 2020, most of these games disappeared with it. Little Fish, Big Fish is our from-scratch tribute, built with modern browser tech (a hand-drawn SVG ocean with parallax depth and a living, seeded ecosystem) — no plugin, no download, phone-friendly.

Eight species with real behavior — sprats school, predators hunt each other (not just you), threats flee or stalk depending on your size. And instead of ending at the top of the food chain, the run goes prestige: max out Ocean King and the mermaid casts her spell, shrinking you back to a fry in a new hue with your score intact, a bonus life, and a meaner ocean. Every level also hides the cave — a black hollow on the sea floor that rerolls its contents each visit: a feast of easy prey, a jelly bloom, a grab bag… or a shark den. Enter at your own risk.

Your fish chases the pointer — move the mouse or drag a finger and it swims there with real momentum. Eat fish clearly smaller than you (your mouth must reach them); anything clearly bigger can eat you. Chain meals for a combo multiplier. Watch the off-screen arrows: red means a predator is closing in, purple means run.
