What the Virtual Piano can do
Four real instruments, not beeps
Every key plays genuine multi-sampled recordings — a Yamaha C5 concert grand (the open-source Salamander Grand Piano) by default, with an upright piano, an electric piano, and a harpsichord one Sound-picker click away. Natural ring while a key is held, a soft damper fade when you let go.
Play with your computer keyboard
The home row is the white keys (A S D F G H J K L ; ') and the row above holds the black keys (W E · T Y U · O P · [) — just like a DAW. Shift+↑/↓ shifts octaves so the whole piano is reachable.
Plug in a MIDI keyboard
Hit Find MIDI device and any connected MIDI keyboard or digital piano shows up — full velocity sensitivity included, so soft and hard playing come through. It reconnects automatically next visit.
Record with a count-in
Press Record, get a 3-2-1 count-in at your tempo, and play. Every take lands on the console's screen where you can replay it, keep it, or toss it.
Download MIDI, MP3, or WAV
Export a take as a standard MIDI file to drop into any DAW, or as finished MP3/WAV audio rendered through the same piano sound you played.

A built-in metronome with four click sounds (40–240 BPM), and a keyboard that resizes from a compact 12 keys to the full 88 — pick the view that fits your screen.
Learn songs with falling notes
Pick a song from the built-in library — Für Elise, Canon in D, Ode to Joy, Happy Birthday, Jingle Bells and more — and watch the notes fall onto the exact keys to press. Practice mode pauses until you play the highlighted key, at 25–100% speed.
Open your own MIDI files
Drop any .mid file onto the piano and it plays with the keys lighting up — then learn it note-by-note in practice mode, or download it back out as MP3/WAV played on the grand, upright, e-piano, or harpsichord.

Frequently asked questions
Is the virtual piano free?
Yes — it runs entirely in your browser and is free to play. Everyone gets a handful of free sessions; a free ClipCraft account tops you up to 100 tokens a month (a piano session is 2 tokens) and adds the full editors and saved projects.
What does it sound like — is it a real piano?
It plays real recordings, multi-sampled every few keys: a Yamaha C5 grand (the open-source Salamander Grand Piano — the same piano sound used in ClipCraft's SoundCraft music studio) by default, plus a sampled Kawai upright, an electric piano, and a harpsichord you can switch to with the Sound picker. Notes ring naturally while held and fade like a damper when released.
How do I play with my computer keyboard?
The home row is the white keys — A S D F G H J K L ; ' from C upward — and the row above holds the black keys (W E, then T Y U, then O P and [). Shift+↑ and Shift+↓ move the whole mapping up or down an octave, and the letters are printed on the on-screen keys.
Can I connect a MIDI keyboard or digital piano?
Yes. Click Find MIDI device and allow MIDI access when the browser asks — any connected MIDI keyboard appears in the list. Playing is velocity-sensitive with sustain-pedal, pitch-bend and mod-wheel support, and your device reconnects automatically on your next visit. Web MIDI works in Chrome, Edge and Firefox (Safari doesn't support it).
Can I record what I play?
Yes. Press the Record button on the console, wait for the 3-2-1 count-in, and play — hit Stop when you're done. Takes appear on the piano's screen, where you can replay each one, delete it, or download it.
Can I download my recording as MIDI or audio?
Both. Each take downloads as a standard .mid file (drop it into any DAW — the notes, timing, and velocities are all there) or as rendered MP3 or WAV audio played through the same grand piano sound.
What songs can I learn on the virtual piano?
The built-in library has nine public-domain songs with falling-note lessons: Ode to Joy, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Für Elise, Canon in D, Greensleeves, Amazing Grace, Happy Birthday, When the Saints Go Marching In, and Jingle Bells. Listen mode plays the song while notes fall onto the right keys; practice mode waits for you to press each highlighted key, as slow as 25% speed. You can also import any MIDI file and learn it the same way.
Can I open a MIDI file and see how it's played?
Yes — drag any .mid file onto the piano (or use Advanced ▸ Open MIDI file). It plays through whichever instrument you've picked with the keys lighting up in time, you can slow it down and practice it with falling notes, and you can export it as MP3/WAV audio.
