🦠 Cell Eater — free microbe evolution game
Free to play — your best evolution saves to the leaderboard.
Play Cell Eater free in your browser — a microscopic eat-and-evolve game where you start as a single cell in a drop of water and grow into an apex organism. Consume smaller microbes, collect DNA, pick mutations (venom sacs, electric organs, reactive spines…), duel same-size cells in risky merge coin-flips, fire your evolved weapon, and dive through portals into stranger dimensions. Divide at critical mass and the whole cycle begins again — deeper, meaner, endless.
The lineage: from Spore to agar.io
Cell Eater is our original spin on gaming's microbial tradition. The primordial-soup fantasy was mainstreamed by the cell stage of Spore (Maxis, 2008, from SimCity/Sims creator Will Wright) — many players' favorite part of that game — and the meditative physics take arrived with Osmos (Hemisphere Games, 2009). Then in 2015 a 19-year-old developer, Matheus Valadares, posted agar.io to the 4chan board /v/ — and its brutally simple eat-cells-smaller-than-you loop became one of the biggest browser games ever made, spawning the whole ".io game" genre.
Cell Eater takes that loop single-player and adds what the .io games never had: a real progression system. Mutations change your body and your weapon, bosses and kamikaze swarms punish autopilot, and the mitosis prestige cycle keeps a great run going for hours.
What's in the water
A living ecosystem of armored, spiked, poisonous, explosive, and mimic cells; hunters and apex predators with health bars you can whittle down; crimson swarms breeding in bloody biomes; portal dimensions (deep caves, a hue-shifted Mirror Realm) with their own rules; and the merge duel — drift close to a same-size rival and press M for a weighted coin-flip where the winner absorbs the loser and the loser is overtaken. Nothing in a run is scripted; every cycle rolls fresh.
How to play
Steer toward the pointer (or drag a finger — phones get on-screen fire/sprint buttons). Space fires your evolved weapon, Shift sprints, E divides at critical mass or enters portals, M commits to a merge duel, and C opens your mutations menu. Eat what's clearly smaller; watch the color-coded arrows — red is danger, gold is a duelable rival, orange is an incoming swarm.
